What Happened

Dangote Petroleum Refinery reduced its diesel gantry price by ₦80/litre, from ₦1,780 to ₦1,700. This is the refinery's second diesel reduction within a month. (Punch News)

The latest move brings the refinery's gantry price close to reported diesel import-parity levels.

Why It Matters

Diesel remains a direct operating input for construction equipment, generators, haulage, batching plants and site logistics.

The reduction therefore creates potential relief in operating costs, although the benefit will depend on whether distributors, transport operators and retailers pass the lower price through the supply chain.

It should not automatically be treated as a nationwide ₦1,700 retail price.

Contractor / Developer Signal

Revisit diesel assumptions in active project cost forecasts and equipment operating budgets.

Do not use ₦1,700/litre as a universal market rate. It is a refinery gantry price, not a guaranteed retail or delivered-to-site price.

NOMARC MARKET SIGNAL

The important movement is not simply the ₦80 reduction. Dangote's price has moved from ₦1,850 → ₦1,780 → ₦1,700/litre within the first week of October, creating a rapidly changing energy-cost reference for contractors. (Punch News)
